Joey's life journey is a tribute to the power of the human spirit and the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. In addition to learning to walk again after being paralysed, he went on to accomplish his childhood dream of racing his motorbike in the Dakar Rally, the toughest, most gruelling off-road race in the world. As a sought after international speaker, Joey uses his personal experiences not only to inspire audiences to overcome adversity but to equip them with key insights to apply when facing their own challenges.
Lying paralysed in the hospital, Joey made the difficult decision to not let the situation define him or his future. He not only committed to achieving the best recovery possible but also to continue chasing his racing dream. The next 10 years would be filled with devastating setbacks and personal triumphs that would forge a new mindset that carried him to eventually stand on the start line of the Dakar Rally. However, earning his place on that start line was just the beginning.
The unimaginable events that he endured during the 9000km race across South America tested him far beyond what even he could have imagined. The catastrophic event of his bike being crushed by a two-ton rally car on the second last day, suddenly leaving him stranded, alone and considered out of the race, set the stage for an epic final chapter.
Since finishing the Dakar Joey has continued to live his passion for adventure. He’s raced 1000’s of kilometres through the deserts of North Africa and ridden in over 32 countries on 6 continents. As a best selling author and international keynote speaker Joey weaves heartfelt emotion, witty humour and gripping adventure to leave audiences with a new perspective on their own challenges and the renewed drive to chase their own goals and dreams.
