Brendan has performed live and filmed television and DVD performances with many top musicians from throughout the country as a keyboardist and sax player over the years. From Afro Café to "Dis my Storie" (2007 & 2008), "Deur die Mukke" (2008-2015), "Bring Jou Hart" and "Hart vol Drome" with top sellers Theuns Jordaan and Juanita DuPlessis. He was also a member of the critically praised 'Afrikaans is Groot' band in 2015. Acoustic and electric bass: Denny Lalouette is a Frenchman. He is a Yamaha bass endorsee, a MarkBass amplifier endorsee, and an unofficial endorsee of NS electric upright basses. The respected American "Bass Player" magazine gave him a positive review for his bass work on Andy Narell's "Live in South Africa" record. He has played on thousands of recordings (over 2000 albums) and has appeared in countless commercials and TV shows, including being a member of the IDOLS band every year, Strictly Come Dancing (2006), Huisgenoot's yearly extravaganza "Skouspel", and the local Jerry Springer series, to name a few. Trumpet: Sydney Mavundla is a South African. Sydney was born in Johannesburg and raised in Barberton, Mpumulanga. He went to Durban at the age of 11 and began Cornet lessons from his father at the age of 12, which led to him playing with the Salvation Army Band. After tuition from Prince Lengoasa and additional lessons (and influence) from Brian Thusi, he was on his way to become a jazz musician by the age of 15. Theory lessons with Cyril Khumalo at the age of 18 enabled him to enrol at the University of Natal at the age of 21 for a B.Mus. degree under Darius Brubeck. As an exchange student from Natal, he attended Florida International University in 1995. He had the opportunity to take trumpet lessons from famed Cuban trumpeters Arturo Sandoval and John Bailey while there. Drums: Mr. Marlon Witbooi Witbooi has since performed alongside a number of well-known local and international performers, including Melanie Scholtz, Dan Shout, and Marcus Wyatt. He is a member of the Nomadic Orchestra, the Nicholas Williams Quartet, and the Bokani Dyer Trio, in addition to being the resident drummer in Blu Bamboo. Witbooi has been a regular house band drummer on live broadcast television shows such as The Voice South Africa Seasons 1 and 2, as well as Coke Studio South Africa Season 2. Joey Evans has always been a keen sportsman and up for an adventure. He’s run several marathons and ultra-marathons, hiked the Fish River Canyon in Namibia, finished the Roof of Africa Enduro in Lesotho, raced in the Botswana Desert 1000 and finished the 6000km Africa Eco Race through the Sahara Desert. He’s riddenand raced his dirt bike throughout South Africa as well as 20 other countries. Joey has been married to his soulmate Meredith for over 22 years and they are the proud parents of four teenage daughters, an extreme adventure in itself! From an early age, Joey had one dream that stood out above the others. A dream to race his motorbike in the Dakar Rally. A race is widely known as the toughest, longest, and most dangerous off-road race in the world, a race that has claimed the lives of over 70 people during its 42-year history. But his dream, along with the rest of his life, was completely shattered in 2007 when during a local race in South Africa he was hit by another biker and amongst other serious injuries, he broke his back, crushing his spinal cord leaving him completely paralyzed from just below his chest. The prognosis was he would never walk or feel his legs again. Joey suddenly facing a daily struggle of keeping it together both physically and mentally made a decision, that he would not only still live a full life, but he would still chase his dream of racing the Dakar Rally. The finish line of that race became the symbol of him beating his injury. It would take him 10 years, with numerous challenges, successes and lessons learned along the way, until on the 2nd of January 2017, Joey stood as a competitor at the start of the Dakar Rally in Asunción, Paraguay. Qualifying to race the Dakar Rally was an incredible achievement in itself but the unimaginable events that he endured through those 9000km across South America tested him far beyond what even he could have imagined. The unforeseen and catastrophic event of his bike being crushed by a two-ton rally car on the second last day, set the stage for an epic final chapter, you simply couldn’t make up. Joey shares a message of determination in the face of insurmountable odds. A master storyteller, weaving heartfelt emotion, humour and gripping adventure, his presentation will leave you with a new perspective on your own challenges and the renewed drive to chase your own goals and dreams.
