Formally known as Austin Lurring on Season 1 of The Voice South Africa in 2016, the singer started building an audience since his appearance on the reality TV- show. After his journey in the competition came to an end, he decided to rebrand himself completely and now goes by the name 'GVBRIEL' which is an artistic adaptation of his second name and represents a new and evolved identity. Hailing from the small town Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, he decided to move to Johannesburg where he would complete his BA in Live Performance and continue building his career in the industry hub. The self-taught multidisciplinary artist takes his influence mainly from R&B, Soul, Gospel & Pop. Some of his biggest musical influences are Boyz II Men, Usher & Chris Brown as well as local music icons like Lira, Mi Casa and AKA.
