< Back Nomadic Orchestra ARTIST ENQUIRY I am interested in booking Select a date First Name Last Name Email Company Phone Submit Thanks! We will get back to you shortly event details Western Cape The Nomadic Orchestra/Orkes/Orkestar is a Cape Town-based band dedicated to getting people to dance. The Nomadic Orchestra is a Cape Town-based five-piece instrumental dancing band. The Nomadic Orchestra's primary purpose is to get people moving. Even the most conservative listeners find themselves involuntarily tapping their feet to the band's addictive high-energy dance music. The Nomadic Orchestra is heavily influenced by traditional music from South-Eastern European nations such as Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia. Klezmer, gipsy, and circus music, as well as contemporary western party music, have all impacted them. Their musical training lends the band a distinct jazz aesthetic, as well as an emphasis on improvisation. The Nomads' music is unique and composed by members of the band. History: The Nomadic Orchestra was formed in April 2009 at the "Balkanology: The Resurrection" celebration. Balkanology has been delivering superb Balkan music to the Cape Town scene for many years, both live and electronic, and has hosted a number of hugely popular parties. Along with local acts such as Goldfish, Freshly Ground, and Prime Circle (to name a few), the Nomadic Orchestra has opened for and performed with international Balkan acts such as Shazalakazoo, Boom Pam, and Balkan Beat Box. Mr Cat and the Jackal, Ma'original, Toby2Shoes, Kimon, Christian Tiger School, Desmond & the Tutu's, Alice Pheobe Lou, Bye Beneco, Grassy Spark, The City, 7th Son, Touch Wood, Captain Stu, Manouche, The Bone Collectors, and Peachy Keen have all performed with The Nomadic Orchestra on the Cape Town music scene. Rocking the Daisies, Oppi Koppi, Flamjangled Tea Party, Up The Creek, Synergy, Earthdance, Resonance, White Mountain, Lavender Fest, Park Acoustics, Capital Craft Beer Festival, Balkanology (Resurrection, Metamorphosis, Greek Mythology, Animal Farm), and Splashy Fen are among the festivals where the Nomadic Orchestra has performed. TESTIMONIALS "A friendly pogo pit forms as the recklessness spreads through the crowd." People are happy, and strangers are swapping drinks. There is a sense of camaraderie, which has been lacking at Nanny Fest [RTD 2011]. And then it was all about the music once more. It was a time when I laughed with delight, had to reconsider my position, and got to dance. For a brief period, Rocking The Daises seemed like a true event." -Roger Young of Mahala reviews Nomadic Orchestra vs. Mr. Cat and the Jackal at RTD 2011.

  • Gus Brown Band

< Back Gus Brown Band ARTIST ENQUIRY I am interested in booking Select a date First Name Last Name Email Company Phone Submit Thanks! We will get back to you shortly event details Kwazulu Natal Gus Brown is a terrific Warner Beach five-piece band. Their mix of folk funky original music (and some unexpected cover songs) has helped them establish themselves on the local music scene; they've also played a few big KZN music festivals and opened for Prime Circle in Cape Town, Jeremy Loops in Durban, and Mi Casa in Johannesburg. While improvising around a fire in 2012, guitar-playing brothers Dale and Nick met lead singer Gavin. Dale and Nick, by chance, preferred jamming guitar to singing, whereas Gavin liked singing to playing guitar... So, with Dale's original song catalogue already in hand... A band was formed on Gus Brown Road.Apart from the three founding members, the band has had a few line-up changes over the years, with the powerhouse bass and drum twin combo of Barry and Ryan de Beer leaving to join a new project, but Gus Brown have recently had the good fortune of welcoming two phenomenally talented musicians join the band. Both are exceptional multi-instrumentalists. Chad Porter on bass can belt out Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" like Freddie Mercury, while Brett Kenton on drums completes this incredible rhythm section. Brett possesses exceptional percussion abilities, as well as guitar, vocals, Jewish harp, and xylophone!Gus Brown combines all of the wonderful traits of a dysfunctional yet thumping folk funk family. TESTIMONIALS "I have no hesitation in recommending them for any performance because not only are they extremely passionate about what they do, but their music is of the highest quality."They can also keep the audience entertained during their performance because they can play a variety of music." • Barry Hilton

< Back Barry Hilton ARTIST ENQUIRY I am interested in Select a date First Name Last Name Email Company Phone Submit Thanks! We will get back to you shortly Event details Gauteng Thirty years on the road, six children, two ex-wives, a new wife, six DVDs, two films, Vegas, Cleese, Connolly, Monkhouse, millions of flight miles, and a Lifetime Achiever statue on his mantelpiece.... No one is the ultimate South African comedy behemoth like Barry Hilton. This versatile and dynamic comedic icon, forged in the fires of the worldwide comedy circuit from London to Hong Kong, handles the audience with captivating charm and contagious ease. His impeccable timing and tap-dancing mind will make any audience glad they came, regardless of their personal background. Hilton has had one of the most successful careers in South African stand-up history and shows no signs of slowing down. In 2013, he became the first South African to headline four shows at the famed Harrah's Improv at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In 2014, the "cousin," as he is affectionately known throughout the country, completed a UK tour, opened the Hong Kong 2014 Comedy Festival, and performed in Singapore and Macau. He wowed the notoriously critical audience at London's Clapham Grand, and his hilarious performances in Dubai had him nominated with John Cleese for Best Comedy Act at Dubai's Timeout Nightlife Awards 2013. Not bad for a former electrician who couldn't stop himself from laughing. Given the magnitude of his accomplishments and demanding schedule, Hilton does not appear to age; rather, his life experience serves as fuel for his distinctive worldview. This seasoned raconteur just sold out a 4200-seat arena concert, which no other local comic has ever accomplished. In classic Barry fashion, he followed that up with a sold-out two-hour performance in Sydney's historic Opera House. Hilton describes this performance as a career highlight, while ex-patriot South Africans and Australians alike lauded it as "stellar..." "... first-class," and "thoroughly entertaining..." Barry is recognised to numerous generations as a gentleman comic and a master craftsman with immaculate timing, an unexpected hairline, and a stare that doesn't miss a thing, with sets that are never filthy, cruel, or mean-spirited, but always humorous. Many people may be surprised to learn that their favourite comedian is also a terrific serious actor - he's cut his teeth on meaty film roles like Lenny in "Finding Lenny," where his soulful blend of humour and profound empathy makes for important sequences. Award-winning stand-up comedian, movie star, motivational speaker and actor, talk show host, and the face of Savanna Cider and Roman's Pizza. There isn't anything in the media that Barry hasn't conquered. Barry Hilton is an institution that has lasted the test of time and continues to impress as he breaks new territory and makes 'em laugh all over the world, thanks to his truly funny bones, unique ability to gauge an audience, firm position on working clean, and relentless work ethic.
